Monday, February 10, 2020 – Sandhill is excited to announce a change which allows our Members to get what they’ve been asking for – broadband only service.

If you have a Tier II or higher broadband package, you can drop your existing landline phone and still retain your membership in the cooperative.  For example, if you have traditional copper broadband service and subscribe to the 20Mb or 40Mb package or if you subscribe to the 200 Mb or higher package on fiber, you can disconnect your landline phone.

We listened to our Members and know that most are only interested in high speed broadband service and use cellphones or some other device for their voice communications.  That’s why for the past 18 months, we have been working with both state and federal agencies to provide our Members with more of what they want – broadband only service.  Traditionally funding and regulations for rural providers, such as ourselves, was dependent on having a landline phone in each home.  Thanks to the hard work of many people here at Sandhill and other companies around the state, the wait is finally over and broadband only services have arrived.

Offering broadband only services to Tier II or higher is the first stage in providing broadband only services to all our Members.  Our plan is to be able to provide broadband only services to all Members in the near future.  Please know that we are diligently working to get higher speeds to our Members across our service area.  You will be notified when you are able to receive higher speeds or be converted to fiber.

As exciting as this news is, we would like to remind you of the importance of keeping your landline phone service.  During extreme storms, having the peace of mind that you can always reach emergency services by dialing 911 on your landline can be critical.  Also, dialing 911 from your landline gives emergency responders your exact location.  This is important for those of us with aging people or young children in our homes.  Also, if you disconnect your landline, you will lose your FREE nationwide long distance.

Thank you for your patience as we work towards providing Chesterfield and Kershaw counties with the best services available.  As 2020 progresses, we will continue to provide more exciting news for our Membership as we build out our state-of-the-art fiber network for all your entertainment, communication, and security needs.

Please contact any of our offices for more details on this exciting news!
